This is another service provided by HAAYA. Weekly sessions are held in which young men in the community are provided the opportunity to come and gain football training.
Outline of the Lead the Way Project:
Haaya is a Voluntary and Community Sector Organisation (VCSO) based in London Borough of Hounslow. Haaya aims to provide a holistic service helping people, particularly those living in the disadvantaged communities to re-engage with mainstream society and improve their quality of life.
The Lead The Way project will enable young people, from 14-25 years of age, who have experienced conflicts and exclusion from their community or family to be able to participate locally whether in their community, local group or within their family environment. The project aims to create role models who will become Community Leaders and help guide and support others and to be mentors in the community who have experienced similar conflicts or barriers to participation.
Haaya feels that this will be an enriching experience for volunteers to take part in as extra-curricular activity and fundraise as part of a community. The skill that they will develop will help participants shine in any application process, whether it is higher education or employment.

The Aims of the Project are to:
- To enable young people who have previously experienced conflicts or exclusion from their community or family to be able to participate locally.
- To enable young people to have a second chance to engage themselves in community.
- Become community leaders and help guide and support others and be mentors in the community.
Activities
Haaya aims to start running workshops at the beginning of January 2014 and finish at the end of March 2014 and we aim to recruit 30 participants. Over this period participants will engage in three main activities:
Activity 1:
Volunteers will attend the weekly workshops in which they will learn team-building, mentoring and volunteering skills and ways to fundraise. Volunteers will be educated on issues which affect the youth in Hounslow such as crime, drugs and poverty, and will be expected to engage in group activities, discussions and role plays. The workshops contain AQA accredited qualifications in Event Management and Basic First Aid.
Activity 2:
Volunteers will consider fundraising ideas and will organise events to help raise £10,000 which will go towards Haaya’s new youth centre. Volunteers will engage with the wider community while fundraising for Haaya.
Activity 3:
Volunteers may participate on a sponsored trek which is subject to discussion.
Outcomes:
People have better chances in life – Young people will learn new skills ie participation, team building, personal development that will help build self-confidence and self-esteem.
Young people gain practical volunteering skills which can be transferrable for their respective career paths.
Stronger communities – Young people will learn to participate and get back into their own community and tackle the barriers that they face.
Through the training programme the volunteers will learn to become community leaders which will enable them to access to local services and opportunities.
Create role models for the younger generation.
